This blog series, #30DaysofGratitude, hopes to share bits of gratitude and create an awareness of how gratitude can change our mindset.
Every day this month, I, along with other writers, teachers and friends, will post about all things gratitude. Come along for the ride and let me know what you are most grateful for every day – I know we can inspire one another.

Neen, or ‘My Nina”asked me to write a blog. What’s a blog? She told me to just write what you are grateful for – what gratitude means to you. Where do I begin?
Back in July I experienced shortness of breath and off to the doctor I went. It seemed I took every test known to man: Blood draws, EKGs, an echocardiogram and a CT scan. Mayo Clinic reviewed my results and not even the might Mayo could diagnose me. Why were my blood cells breaking apart?
After seeking a third opinion at Northwestern and after a painful second bone marrow biopsy, I was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia. Of course Nina was my ‘everything.’ I didn’t know what the hell the medical team was talking about. She became a doctor in those four months. One I highly recommend.
I must say “It is what it is” has always been my go-to phrase. I have accepted all. What else can one do?
I am grateful for my daughter Nina who is my rock.
I am grateful for my son who is my right arm.
I am grateful for my son who is always the voice of calm.
I am grateful for Nina’s Hubs for his welcoming me into their home.
I am grateful for my loving, beautiful grandchildren who are the light of my life.
I am grateful for all the doctors and nurses who took such good care of me and will be for the following months to come.
I am grateful for the strength God has given me to handle having Leukemia.
I will continue to stay positive, for I am sure that while it is what it is, whatever will be will be.
